The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay technology.
Replay systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest certain decisions from the chair umpire, echoing the protocol currently in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can request.
A Recent Example
A recent case took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
