Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
