Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
